Second wife of Augustus and first Roman empress.
The Julio-Claudian dynasty founded the Roman
Empire. Emperor Augustus was a Julius and Livia brought the
Claudius family into the mix. The Julians weren't nearly as prolific as the
Claudians. In fact, the
second emperor, Tiberius, was Livia's son by a previous marriage and
not a Julian at all; however, by the third emperor, Caligula, the two
families were thoroughly blended.
