Theodora

c. 490-548

Theodora was the wife of emperor Justinian at the zenith of the Byzantine Empire. She came from humble origins and rose through the theater world as a sexy comedic actress. She hooked up with Justinian when he was just the emperor's nephew and hypercompetent assistant. Then she moved up when Justinian became emperor in 527. She was one of his chief advisers and almost an equal partner.

Husband: Justinian (m. 525 AD–548 AD)
