A world-renowned poet. How renowned? One of
the few contemporary poets I've actually read. To be honest, literary
analysis is not my strong suit, but most of the obits I read used some
combination of African-American experience, childhood and joyful.
Unfortunately her literary accomplishments were overshadowed by the
fact that she was a professor at Virginia Tech when it became the site
of America's deadliest school shooting. The shooter had been one of her
students, and she had been afraid he might end up doing something like
this.
How Lesbian was she? Pretty simple answer to that. She had a long-time partner who became her wife as soon as it became legal.
