Joan
of Arc
1412-1431
Joan of Arc is the patron saint and savior of France, a peasant girl
commanded by God to defend France from the English
invaders during the Hundred Years' War. She
broke through the siege of
Orléans and facilitated the coronation of King Charles
VII of France.
When the English finally caught her, they sentenced her to be burned her alive, ostensibly
for
being a witch and wearing men's clothes, but mostly because she had
just ruined all of their plans.
How lesbian was she?
Well, she was a teenage Catholic saint fighting a war of national
survival, living among men, then imprisoned
and dead by the age of 19... So, where would
she even find the time? Or another woman to lesbianize with? Some LGBT
writers want to call her
transgendered, but she never actually claimed to be a
man; she just wanted to dress comfortably.
