Maria Theresa of Austria
1717-1780
Maria Theresa was ruler of the Habsburg dominions, a diverse collection
of lands that the family had accumulated by marriage and inheritance all across
central Europe. Her court was held in Vienna, Austria. Her reign lasted from 1740 until her death in 1780.
She fought several wars against Frederick the Great
of Prussia over the ownership of Silesia and hegemony within Germany. She was the mother of Queen Marie Antoinette of
France.
