Carrie
Chapman Catt
1859-1947
Carrie Chapman Catt was an American suffragist who
campaigned for the Nineteenth Amendment, which gave all American women the
right to vote in 1920. She was one of the first women from the Eastern
US to comit to a political party. (Republican)
How lesbian was she?
She was married to men twice.
After her second husband's death in 1905, she donated his body to
science and then lived with Mary Garrett Hay, a fellow suffragist.
Catt requested burial alongside Hay, rather than her first husband.
